The Hero’s Journey Stage 4— Meeting with the Mentor

Stage 4 of the Hero’s Journey begins when you’ve hit the edge of your ability to move forward, you need help, you need a mentor.

At this point in your hero’s journey, you’ve left the ordinary world, heard the call to adventure and experienced the refusal of that call. You know what you have to do, you feel that inner calling, but you’re reluctant about making the jump. Fear may have set in at this point, along with self-doubt, and you’re stuck, frozen, feeling trapped.

Held to your own devices, you won’t move forward. You’ll likely stay right here in this frozen feeling, trapped. You need someone else to help you, you need support, you need guidance, you need a mentor!

And it’s typically at this point when the mentor magically appears in the lives of those with eyes to see and ears to hear.

That mentor can take many different forms. They can be a mentor for any period of time. Their job is to teach you the ways of “the force” so you can continue your journey and cross the threshold into a new world and your new existence.
